United Manufacturing Company has made these very cool knockoff Astro Apes back in the 1970s. They are molded off of Mego Planet of the Apes figures but slight differences (to avoid being sued I imagine!). Myra, molded from Mego Zira, is the only female who bears a molded on flower on the side of her head. Dr. Zorma is Dr. Zaius with some square framed glasses molded onto his face. Artemus is the Cornelius\Galen figure and Warrior Ape is the soldier ape with some kind of strange Roman style helmet molded on. The bodies have only 5 points of articulation, are terribly cheaply made, have plastic unique clothing and some came with either a mini plastic suitcase or some kind of Flash Gordon style ray gun. The accessories have been seen in the lovely 70’s yellow and olive drab, just like your parents’ kitchen back in the day! They came bagged with header cards and are an excellent example of how one company just ripped off another and did it without permission. In my opinion, these are some of the coolest knockoff POTA figures ever! An unusual item made with the Astro Apes line are these 2.5″ inflatable toys. They came in packs of 4 with one character on each inflatable toy. Colors were varied, but usually included red, orange, green, white and yellow. Not sure who the hell would play with them, but nonetheless I had to have a set or two!

I love this collection of knockoffs, I have only acquired Dr. Zorma so far. They quite unique.
I had all of them at one point with many variants. Myra was even bagged
