The story goes that in the late 1990s Mego collectors had an itch…an itch so big that Toy Biz (now defunct) decided to make some 9″ figures that were along the same spirit of the original mego 8″ figures but different and unique. The focus was strictly on Marvel heroes and villains. They would come in a colorful box, adorned on the front with a velcro closed panel that opened up to reveal a window box underneath. The figure was designed to match the cover of the comic book presented on the front of the box. They were meticulously fabricated to carry all of the same unique exaggerations on the figure as on the comic book cover they presented on the front of the box. Done in waves, there was one figure you could not buy at the store. This was the mail-away Aunt May figure which required cutting the UPCs off the boxes to get her. This line of figures is one of my personal favorites and wish it had gone much further!
