Now you might be asking yourself, “Why is this on here? This page is for Mego LIKE or inspired items, but this is a Mego chopper for Fonzie. Well, true, but the fact of the matter is that this chopper was NOT built by Mego at all. It actually was made with the same patent that the Ideal Corporation Evil Knievel chopper was built with. Yes, that’s right! Get out your choppers and you will find a patent number somewhere on or near the back wheel. Look it up online and see for yourself! I discovered this about 24 years ago while looking at my Fonzie chopper and the Evil Knievel chopper. Other than the color and stickers, it is the same bike. Check underneath and you will also find the gear used to wind up the back wheel to make it ride on its own, so YES it does work with the Evil Knievel wind up launch pad! So, in the end, this toy was patented and made for the Ideal Toy Corporation, but Sears sold a mail order version for Fonzie. Also, if you look closely, the Fonzie figure is too big for this smaller chopper which was originally designed for the Ideal Toy Company’s Evil Knievel bendy figure.
