Kaplast 8″ Menudo

Ok, so don’t get all teary eyed on me because you miss that old teen band Menudo…..yuck! Seriously if it wasn’t enough that MTC Multi-Toys made these horrible 8″ Mego knockoff figures using cheaper versions of the Type 2 bodies for the US, well someone decided they needed them in Brazil, South America too. Yes, that’s right! But this time instead of using 5 of the group members’ likenesses from 1983, Kaplast made them in 1985 with the likeness from everyone’s favorite “Livin’ the Vida Loca” performer Ricky Martin when he was a teen. Now, the 1983 Menudo figures did have a “Ricky” member and figure, but it was NOT Ricky Martin. This 1985 series however did use his 1985 likeness. The boxes use the same logo and color schemes, but the boxes are more narrow and wrapped in cellophane instead of being a standard window box. The body on these figures is more of a bendy type looking rubber arm than a Type 2 Mego design. They did come with a microphone and “autographed” poster, but no cheap record with a “special message” from the “artist” if we can call them that. Some of the other “kids” were still present in the band and you can find them on the 1983 MTC Multi-Toys box as well as this box from Kaplast. The box is in Portuguese instead of English and Spanish. The box does say collect all of the Menudo figures, but so far I have yet to see any others.
