Deluxe Reading Corp 6.5″ Topper Tigers

All the way from Elizabeth, NJ by the Delixe Reading Corp. in the mid 1960s (1965-1972) are these cool 6 1/2″ soldiers!1 They came in plastic tubes and each had a special skill. There was a hidden button on the flexible rubberized frames that activated their right arm once pulled back and clicked into place. There were some accessories that came with them and are quite hard to find. They did not sell very well at the time and you can still find numerous examples of unopened examples. Damn shame because the pictures do not do them justice – they are badass!

At the same time, Deluxe Reading also had a companion doll line in the same kind of display tubes, and faces just as wild as the Tigers. The women had one set of clothes each, though I have seen some full sealed sets that the clothes from one doll were on another. One doll has a microphone/stand, one a baseball bat and glove, and one a guitar. There’s also a doll with exotic eyes in an outfit that makes her look like a 60s movie spy or femme fatale (including her purse). The Tigers and Go-Gos are 6.5 inch dolls and can probably wear the clothes from the company’s later Dawn fashions issued under the Topper Toys name, plus the rival Palitoy Pippa line, both from the 70s. https://www.flickr.com/photos/31430889@N04/albums/72157622816735954/with/5462800952
