What would Mego Like be without the Official World Famous Super Monsters? These figures were the sincerest form of Mego flattery that started it all. From their 8″ format and real cloth outfits to the card design that mimicked Mego’s World’s Greatest Superheroes… Azrak Hamway International wanted to recreate the success Mego saw, while barely shying away from complete imitation. But what AHI gave us was a darker mirror image of Mego. The outfits didn’t have the flashy colors and exacting standards of Mego. Oh no! They were pieced together with half shirts, bits of twine, gloomy colors and splattered blood in ways that were truly monstrous. And since AHI was even less concerned about quality control than they were about copyright infringement, all these years later collectors have tons of variations to collect.
