Kenner 9″ Steve Scout

The 1970s were a great period for action figures and other toys. Action figures from GI Joe to Mego’s line of superheroes and more encouraged other companies to find a venue into which to enter the action figure market and get a hold of the hearts and wallets of kids and parents in those days. Kenner came up with an idea to produce 9.5 Steve Scout. He was true to form and his uniform was approved, endorsed and Kenner had the only license from the Boy Scouts of America to make such a toy. Heck, his right hand even was in the Scout Salute three fingered formation! Back then, Boy Scouting was very popular. Despite today’s woke culture need to destroy everything good and pure by breaking it down, kids back then enjoyed scouting, and the Boy Scouts were no exception. There were not only carded accessory sets and playsets, but Kenner went so far as to introduce another 3 characters into the line: Bob Scout, Craig Cub and Dave Cub. The outfits were accurate and the playsets were a lot of fun and sometimes a little larger than life. Unfortunately, in 1976 the two year old line could not compete with the likes of Hasbro and Mego and the line was cancelled. Is that the end..? Not quite! You see, in Europe action figures were and are still desirable. So, Furga (Italy) and Dickie (Germany) took on the line with their own versions off the figures using the same Scout bodies, but changing the heads and outfits. The right hand still had the Scout Salute style to it interestingly enough. The packages were changed to reflect the new labels, but the pictures on each were almost identical, save for the Steve, Bob, Craig and Dave figures being replaced with OK MIke (Italy) or Action-Man (Germany). Sadly when the line ended, there were two planned sets that never made it: The Union Soldier and the Confederate Soldier. Collector’s usually agree that these would have been golden!!!

There is also a version of the Scout Base called Wilderness Base at Rocky Rapids which switches out the tent accessories with the raft accessories.
