Mort Alexander (Mortoys) 12″ Johnny Strong

Way too many companies in the 1970s found the need to make a cheaper version of Hasbro’s GI Joe so that every kid could have one…well, no…it was obviously for revenue stream off a very successful toy line. The 12″ Johnny Strong figure is NOT to be confused with the Fairland Toy Johnny Strong (click here) which was made more liked the flocked head GI Joe Adventure team figure with Kung fu grip. This version by Mortoys is made of a very cheap body (remember the 8″ line of Mego’s Action Jackson knockoff figures that they made were made very cheap as well!). He had several carded outfits and he came in a window box…just a shrink wrapped cardboard “coffin” box if you will. He is along the many line of knockoffs of the day back in the 70s, and he reminds me more of a Mego Fighting Yank than a GI Joe in one of his versions. There appear to be at least 10 carded outfits for this line.
