Take you back to the 1970s…late 70s to be more precise. Sears put together three playsets which was marketed for “11.5′ Fashion Dolls” but would have probably served a better purpose if marketed towards action figures for boys too. In 1978, Sears marketed the Sears Desktop Model Computer playset. Now, remember these were the VERY early days of the computer to anyone other than university scientists. The Desktop model was exactly what you might think….a boxy computer with a combo typewriter/printer setup. The 1979 edition was the Sears Floor Model Computer Playset. This went from a typewriter looking table computer to a full on, 1960s/70s style computer with all of those flashing lights that no one understood what they were AND spinning tape reels just with the push of a button…OH YEA! After this, Sears decided to put the two sets together, added some paperboard wood paneling style backdrops and some other paperboard folding furniture, and Voila!! You have the Sears Airline Reservation Computer Playset! Best part of these sets: NO BATTERIES REQUIRED!!

I actually for a short time owned this set. I wanted to use the computer centre as part of a Dr. Rudy Wells Lab. Unfortunately not even the seat fit Kenners Bionic Woman Doll. So I returned it. By the looks of it even Mego’s Wonder Woman was out of scale for this play set.
